Packer’s on-line casino launch delayed because of an earthquake

The crowngames.com website crashed soon after the quake, although the site was up and running again by Friday afternoon.

The Packer family's planned launch of Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd's online casino was disrupted on Thursday by a powerful earthquake. As a result the launch was delayed.

The company spokeswoman Sara Clafton said the Vanuatu internet operation Crowngames.com opened later than expected following technical service problems resulting from the quake.

Ms Clafton said that the hardware running the internet site hadn't been affected by the earthquake, which measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.

"The earthquake had disrupted some of the technical services that we needed, and then getting them back on track given that the whole of Vanuatu was distracted by the earthquake," she said.

The site was up and running again by Friday afternoon.
