Jackson and court terminate betting on Reggiejackson.com
Jackson Gets Court Order Against online betting sites using his name
Florida Judge John A. Miller has issued a court order to terminate the Internet betting sites that operated under the names Reggiejackson.com and Placethatbet.com.
The sites were operated by a Costa Rica-based company, Transworld Network SA WorldNet Casinos Inc., which paid Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson a fee to use his name to endorse the site. Originally, Baseball Jackson knew only about the first site, reggiejackson.com, and thought it was only for amusement purposes. When he learned of the second site, placethatbet.com, and the wager activity, he angrily cut his ties to them.
In August, Jackson stated, “Our name was used without permission on the gaming site in reference to sports betting and we disassociated ourselves.” His attorney Edward Blum said that the Internet company, Transworld Network SA WorldNet Casinos Inc., located in San Jose, Costa Rica, had misused Jackson's name. “We've been in a fight to get this to end,” Blum said. “We've been filing lawsuits.”
According to Blum, the court order prohibits any further wagering on the reggiejackson.com site and terminates the placethatbet.com site.
At present, the Reggiejackson.com site appears to no longer offer online betting activities. The Placethatbet.com site remains in place, although Jackson's name does not endorse it.
