Chicago governor still making waves

Rosemont casino saga continues

Chicago Governor, George Ryan continues to make waves with his recent appointments to Illinois Gaming Board. The replacements Ryan chose to replace the two who voted against a proposal for a riverboat casino in Rosemont have had business relationships with investors in the Rosemont casino.

According to local Tribune reporters Douglas Holt and Ray Long, Ryan continues to deny the problem. Stated Ryan spokesman Dennis Culloton, “We're quite confident there are no conflicts of interest here."

Ryan’s attempts to lessen the conflict of interest issue have not satisfied Chicago residents. They claim that the only way to solve the matter is for his two new appointees to recuse themselves from future votes on the Rosemont deal. Moreover, the investors who were targeted by the gaming board will have to sell their interest in the project and the remaining investors have to find an established, professional, above-board casino operator to run it, if the project hopes to get off the ground in respectable manner.

If not, it seems that the Rosemont casino is headed for a long, drawn out court case, with few betting that the casino will win.
