Putting online gamers in their place

Leading companies choose GeoPoint’s geolocation service

GeoPoint’s geolocation service Quova GeoPoint enables online gaming sites to identify the geographic location of their visitors in real time. Quova's GeoPoint service determines the location of Internet users by mapping the Internet infrastructure of over 4 billion IP addresses.

As gambling online is illegal in certain countries including the United States, web sites need to determine the location of potential betters if they wish to comply with national laws. Moreover, the system enables online gaming sites to serve customized content according to the location of each visitor.

Companies already signed on include Ladbrokes, Sports.com Limited, Blue Square, Rank.com, the interactive betting site for The Rank Group, BETDAQ.com, The Betting Exchange – an Irish-based bet brokerage service, Zabadoo.com, an Internet lottery operator and Tatts.com, the online division of Tattersall's.

"Ladbrokes is a responsible company and it is vital for us to know where our customers are coming from," said John O'Reilly, managing director of Ladbrokes eGaming. "Quova GeoPoint will enable us to avoid taking bets from those countries which we choose not to accept bets from - whether for legal or other reasons - but will also allow us to measure the continuing success of our online business on a country by country basis."
