MGM Mirage Head Project has quit

The president Mark Juliano, 46, of MGM Mirage's stalled Atlantic City project resigned Tuesday, saying he couldn't wait any longer for it to get underway.

Juliano said he will pursue "more immediate opportunities," but he has no job lined up.

Two years ago Juliano has signed on with Mirage Resorts Inc. expectant to head up the company's planned $1.5 billion Atlantic City casino. But MGM's buyout of Mirage last March put the project on the side.

Now it scheduled to break ground late next year and be open in 2005.

At Tuesday Juliano said that he just wanted to get back into operations soon.

Before joining Mirage Juliano, of Villanova, Pa., started as a seating captain in the showroom of Resorts International in 1978 and rose through the ranks there and at Caesars.

He said he would stay on as chairman of the Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority board, a position he has held since 1996.

Las Vegas-based MGM Mirage owns or operates 18 casino properties in the United States, Australia, and South Africa.
