Legislation On-line Gambling
A fast-track bill in Congress intended cracking down laundering terrorist money as well targeted on-line gambling.
Rep. Jim Leach, R-Iowa, added provisions restricting the use of checks, credit cards and wire transfers for on-line gambling. His approach is along with strategies that on-line gambling opponents are pursuing to put a ceiling on or outlaw online betting. Along with other things, the bill would give the federal government broader authority to track terrorist money kept in offshore bank accounts.
Rep. John LaFalce, D-N.Y, is resisting the on-line gambling restrictions.
LaFalce on the other hand is concerned that Leach's provision could slow and possibly prevent passage of the money-laundering bill; according to a LaFalce spokeswoman.
The vice president of the American Gaming Association,Wally Chalmers, said he is not aware of any objections by the casino industry to Leach's restrictions on Internet gambling…
